• The Core Science of Public Health 

           Rothman (1986) menyebut epidemiologi " the science of occuerrence of human illness" . Epidemiologi merupakan inti dari disiplin ilmu " public health ( kesehatan masyarakat ) , tetapi juga relevan untuk ilmu kedokteran klinis ( Gordis 2000) . karena peran nya yang sangat sentral bagi kesehatan masyarakat maka epidemiologi disebut sebagai " the mother science of public health" ( Blakley , 1990) atau " the core science of public health" ( Gertsman,1998 )
